Vande Mataram

I can't understand the controversy over Muslims refusing to sing Vande Mataram. It's absurd to think anybody can fail to anthropomorphize the country and still claim to be a law abiding person who pays his taxes. Muslim organizations' statement that they love the country even though they don't deify it is preposterous, besides being singularly lacking in semicolons. There is a purpose for such things. That is why public figures are administered the oath of office as it guarantees that they will be honest and scruplous. We are already aware of the uncontrollable patriotism generated amongst children by the daily school pledge. Furthermore, the Vande Mataram test has been certified by organizations whose nationalism is beyond all shadow of doubt. Anyone who disagrees can go live in Pakistan.

  1. One of the reasons VM wasn't chosen to be the national anthem was this anthromorphosis of the country.
If you look through Islamic scripture, you will realize their refusal to portray any life form arises out of the belief that every life form has a will and an identity of its own, and should not be used to symbolize anything but itself. It is a noble philosophy, although it makes use of symbology a tad bit difficult.
Back to the VM, it has garnered the amount of respect it has because of its long standing relationship with our struggle for independence. While I understand the indignation shown, it is also to be understood that patriotism can't be forced on anybody.
Matter of fact, I think patriotism needs to shake off the Freedom Movement image and don a more contemporary garb.
